Is it fair?

In a few month’s time, the NDIS will roll out across most of NSW and people and organisations are clamouring to be ready. One of the reasons for this is that government; the architect, driver and regulator of it, is still not ready. This is despite the long lead time, the bipartisanship and the trial sites. So why…? If government was a business, would they have the ability to take 2 to 3 years to get ready? Would they be afforded the luxury of that time to get everything in place? One doubts that as anyone that has run a business, large or small knows that there is never that amount of time.

There is no doubt it is complex but no more so than many businesses trying to operate in an environment that is both uncertain and changing. The truth is that there has been a lot of rhetoric and a lot industry funding spent to get organisations to be ready, yet, there is no such thing as being ready. A ‘ready organisation’ is one that is:

  • Ready for anything

  • Ready to make mistakes

  • Ready to change and

  • Ready to move.
